The Louvre's Youth Subscription Card

Louvre Carte JeunesIf you plan to spend a lot of time at the Louvre and are between the ages of 18 and 26, there is an annual 'carte jeunes' for 100 francs. This does not seem to be reserved for residents of France and the only formality required is some sort of proof of being a student, librarian or a teacher.

Besides unlimited access, you get to jump the queues and you can bring a friend for free on Monday evenings. The card also entitles the holder to various other reductions; for guided tours for example. Between mid-September and mid-March, the card can be purchased directly at the museum; at the 'acceuil jeunes' under the Pyramid. Don't forget: entry for those under 18 is free.

Ask for the inscription form by writing to:
Carte Louvre Jeunes, Service Culturel
Musée du Louvre, 75058 Paris Cedex 01. Info. Tel.: 01 40 20 51 04.

'M.L.' is Short

It is short for Mémorial du Maréchal Leclerc de Hauteclocque et de la Libération de Paris - and - Musée Jean Moulin. The musee Leclerc & Moulin two museums are related by the event of World War II and the key roles these two Frenchmen played in it.

General Leclerc lead French forces into Normandy and to the eventual liberation of Paris while Jean Moulin was General De Gaulle's leader of 'l'Armée des Ombres,' the resistance in occupied France.

The two museums are located on the garden that has been constructed over the tracks at the Gare Montparnasse, which is named, the Jardin Atlantique.

Opening hours are 10:00 to 17:40 daily, except Mondays and public holidays. Entries are normally 17.50 francs, but for special events may be 27 francs. There is no charge to enter the documentation centre; but it requires an appointment. For information, phone 01 40 64 39 44 or fax 01 43 21 28 30.

Les Cimetières Parisiens

You can discover more about these interesting places paris cimetieres from three brochures published by the Mairie de Paris. In France these can be ordered by Minitel, but they may be available at the reception office of the Hôtel de Ville or at the Paris Tourist Office on the Champs-Elysées.

There are discovery brochures for Montmartre and Montparnasse and a new one has come out for the Père-Lachaise cemetery, showing where the musicians are located. This effort by the city comes under the heading of 'environment' - and that's what Parisian cemeteries have.
