Humbug Starts Early This Year

Paris:- Friday, 6. November 1998:- You may think putting up the Christmas lights now is a bit early; I think it is much, far, way too early. I intend to put my lights up - if I don't forget - on Christmas Eve as usual.

I can do this because I'm at home and all I have to do is find last year's strings of lights and plug them in. If you are planning to come to Paris, it might be to avoid having to do this. I would go to Arizona if I could.

But a good number of people are more ambitious and are planning to come all the way to Paris for the holidays. For this they are planning their Christmas season holiday well in advance like sensible people.

Officially, for Paris, there is no Christmas season program available at this time. However, if you check the 'Scene' page in this issue you will find a good number of major exhibitions which carry over the Christmas season, until January.

Paris' basic program for the coming holiday season does not change a great deal from year to year. The specific details do vary, and as I get them they will be added here.

Also this is the third Christmas for Metropole Paris. Links to features from 1996 and 1997 are added below. There are features about shopping, Christmas windows, food and drink, and even suggestions for New Year's.

Like the program itself, a lot of the details won't change much - so you can read about Christmas Past here and now, to get an idea of what the coming Christmas of 1998 will be like.

If you are still thinking that starting Christmas this early is pure Humbug, as a distant nephew of Scrooge I have to agree with you. Readers coming to Paris deserve superior treatment, so this page will be updated until the 'Humbug' wears off - until we pop the New Years' cork in issue 3.52, on Monday, 28. December.
