FlashNews: Transport Strikes Next Week
Weekly contents are listed below the following 'FlashNews' bulletin.

Paris:- Saturday, 21. November 1998:- For the first time, a 'Euro-Strike' of continental rail operations has been called for Monday, and French rail workers are to take part in it.

This will affect TGV service between Brussels and Paris, with about a 30 percent reduction in scheduled trains. Train services to other countries may be affected as well. Not expected to be affected is the London-Paris 'Eurostar' service.

Elsewhere in France, Monday's national rail services originating in Paris will be reduced to one or two scheduled trains out of three. Regional traffic between major centres is expected to be close to zero.

In the Paris region, the RER lines 'C' and 'D' will be most severely affected with only one train in four running, and one in three on the RER line 'B.' Suburban SNCF trains will be running at the rate of 25 to 33 percent of normal.

Later in the week, SNCF ticket controllers have called for a strike on Thursday. On Friday, train drivers take their turn.

The reduced services announced above are only approximate. The 'Euro-Strike' on Monday is a first; and it is not known if it will be widely followed. The French-only strikes on Thursday and Friday will cause their usual inconvenience to millions of travellers.

In other strike news, the conflict at Paris' Musée d'Orsay was settled late on Friday. The musuem should be open as usual today.
