Your Thriving Club In Paris

Empty chairs outside mean it is an 'inside' day at La Corona.

News About the 'Café Metropole Club'

Paris:- Saturday, 1. April 2000:- The grand news is that at last Thursday's club meeting, when I was set to twiddle away two hours in the semi-tropical splendor of La Corona, two brand-new members signed the unofficial members' booklet.

I had not long to wallow in the warm glory of this because Kati and Alan Lewis were giddy from acquiring an apartment in Paris, and in a tizzy of excitement to furnish the entire thing in less than two weeks.

Being a local property owner is not a necessity for prospective club members, but it is true that a number of bona-fide club members do own their own places in Paris.

To celebrate, we had similar cafés in three different-sized cups and this made café the 'Drink of the Week,' which does not exactly put it in the 'big news' category.

Although I read La Corona's afternoon menu and while twiddling, and wrote some of it down, nobody had any 'Food of the Week.' The 'Quote of the Week' is duly noted in Thursday's club report, I am not going to repeat it here. It is hardly a French vocabulary-builder.

The Lewis' come from Carmel, California, several times a year to Paris for business and pleasure. I told them somephoto: kati, alan lewis horror stories about waiting three months for a refrigerator to suggest that the 'pleasure' would resume once they have their new place furnished.

Kati and Alan being temporarily glum after learning of 'lost' chair.

While at the meeting, Alan found out by phone that he missed getting one chair of a four-chair set of two chairs, by about 30 minutes. He did not let this get him down for long - as it would provide a good excuse to look for more chairs.

I can't say that you see a lot of people carrying chairs on the Rue de Rivoli that they have been lucky enough to acquire, but if you do see a chair you like you should buy it immediately in order to not be disappointed.

Either that, or come to any meeting at the Café Metropole Club. Our section of the café La Corona has about 20 chairs or banquet seats available for us. If these aren't enough, we can 'borrow' some more from the rest of the café.

Some Dates To Note

The café La Corona will be occupied with a film-shoot for a couple of days in May, so there may be a change of day for one week's club meeting.

Also, I will be absent from two meetings - the last one in June and the first one in July, which are Thursday, 29. June and Thursday, 6. July.

For these dates, something will be 'fixed up.' The main thing to remember is the club's meetings will likely take place, nearly as usual.

A special note should be made for the eve of Bastille Day, on Thursday, 13. July. This will be a Bastille Day eve that may be somewhat extraordinary - Year 2000 after all! - and there should be a lot of dancing in the streets; followed by the biggest picnic in the history of the world on Friday.

Next Thursday's club meeting will be held as usual in the same place at the same time, rain or shine.

The Original 'Report' of the Last Meeting

I will recommend this - once again! - unles you have something urgent to do. But if you want to read last Thursday's original report, you can see the unofficial account of the weekly Club meeting - which is not the same as above.

The Boilerplate: The Café Metropole Club Is Free

The only purpose of the Café Metropole Club is to provide a chance for readers of the online magazine 'Metropole Paris' who are visiting Paris to meet its 'Ed,' and each other, at its weekly meetings in the club's Paris café.

You will find that your 'Club' may be more value than it costs - which is nothing - even though it has no actual real, pretended or 'virtual' benefits, except for being absolutely free.
