Paris:- Saturday, 17. February 2001:- Few new big shows are on the billboard but there are a couple of small items buried down below in the detailed part.

Okay, Picasso and Rodin are not all that 'big' - compared to the cow show - and I have even put the Josephine Baker show before it. Why not? The Rolling Stones aren't live either.

But the cows are, and the farmers are supposed to be 'morose' over the current serious problems they are having with just about everything. Whatever happens, they will not be unhappy if you go out there and have a darn good feed of steak-frites.

The Cow Show - is officially known as the Salon International de l'Agriculture, and features France's most beautiful cows and other farm animals - plus, much more, including an incredible variety of food from all of France's regions, including exotic offshore ones. Picasso Erotique - features about 40 paintings and 250 drawings and engravings, more or less treating one subject - one of Picasso's favorites - from the beginning of the last century up until the '60's. Semi-Marathon de Paris - the 9th edition of this little stroll through Paris' 13th and 12th arrondissements and the Bois de Vincennes is scheduled for Sunday, 4. March 2001. Sign-up deadline is 16. February.

L'Or des Amazones - is an exhibition of the prestigious works by nomads from the steppes of Asia; from 600 BC to 400 AD. All the pieces are on loan from southern Russian museums and include the entire collection from the tomb of the Princess of Kobiakovo. Coming to the Musée Cernuschi on Friday, 16. International Marathon de Paris - is the 25th edition and it takes place in Paris about a month later, on Sunday, 8. April 2001. This 'big one' takes routes into both the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes, but mainly runs through Paris' centre on the right bank, with a dip into the 16th arrondissement. Sign-up deadline is 18. March.

Paris Film Festival - features 60 films, many for the first time. Alain Delon is this year's festival president and this year's guest of honor is Rome's Cinecitta with lots of Italian film folk. Springtime for Giuseppe Verdi - opera, opera as concert, a huge musical spectacle at Bercy, plus a selection of opera films at the Louvre - all treat Verdi during March. He is obviously somebody's darling.

Paris et Charles V - the 'Wise,' son of Jean le Bon, crowned in 1364. Builder and arts patron, Charles V transformed the Louvre from a fortress into a palace. From Thursday, 5. L'Asie des Steppes - 'From Alexander the Great to Genghis Khan' is the first major exhibition to be hosted by the Musée National des Guimet. L'Ecole de Paris 1901-1929 - is a big expo devoted to foreign artists who arrived in Paris before 1914, and photographers who showed up in the '20's - until it was mostly over in 1930. Museum Note - the Musée d'Orsay is doing a bit of interior remodelling this year, and has moved its entry for visitors to the side facing the Seine, on the Quai Anatole France. The entrance for groups is on the opposite Rue de Lille side.

Ani, Capitale d'Arménie - 1700 years ago Armenia adopted Christianity as its state religion. This exhibition presents 100 objects from the capital, Ani - a mediaeval city buried in time, at the crossroads of Asia minor. About 20 manuscripts from the 11th to 14th centuries are also on view. Poster Festival of the Year 2000 - Paris jumped the gun by having its 'Millennium' festival a year early, but some of the posters for it are exceptional. Le Musée Gustave Moreau - is in the old apartment of Gustave Moreau's parents and has been restored to the way it was when he turned it into a personal museum.
