and the 'Trumpets and Organ' of Versailles Trésors de Byzance - is merely the Bibliothèque Nationale showing off its collection of original Greek manuscripts, numbering about 50 items you can't see elsewhere. Grass - Lawns - experimentation has shown that grass in Paris is not damaged by walking, sitting or lying on it - and this is indicated by tri-lingual green 'smiley' signs indicating 'safe' grass. All the same some grass remains delicate, and it is indicated by signs too, usually saying 'Pelouse Interdite.' Playing football is 'inderdite' everywhere. Paris' Summer SpecialsNoites do Brasil - August's Saturday nights at the Divan have a latin tradition, beginning at 23:00 and going until sunrise - and until 23. August. I'm not sure if its purpose is to give Europe a preview of coming US films or gives US actors a chance to plug Hollywood's latest attractions on TV-news here. Whichever - or both! - from Friday, 31. Musique En l'Ile - features 'Les Voix de Neva' from Saint Petersburg, on several dates, and at two locations - the Saint-Germain-des Prés church and Saint-Louis-en-l'Ile church. Other concerts will be given by the soloists and choir of Christ Church, from Greenwich in the US. Finally there will be one performance by the soloists and choir of the Kremlin Museum's La Capella, on Tuesday, 28. August. For complete details see the Festival Musique en l'Ile Web site. Canals are still used for working, but mainly for all sorts of pleasures - not like in the 19th century when Parisians were short of water.
