We exchange cards and restaurant ideas, talk more about sailing, F-4 fighter planes, the Opéra and food during the unofficial club time - does this count for the Club report?

Francoise suggested Le Cottage - 1. Rue Léopold Robert, Paris 14, Tel.: 01 43 35 14 18 - as a great little restaurant.

A most amazing dappled pink and blue sky had us gasping at the short-lived beauty of the view just before leaving. Waiter Erik [Eric ??] knew that we were the 'Internet Club' and was pleased to have served us today.

I imagine he'll be there next Thursday as will I.

That's all folks, from icy-cold Boullay.

Mea Culpa Is Empty, from New York

The vitally important report of last week's club meeting has been further delayed by anphoto: naked cowboy, times sqaure inability to find the accent code for the 'c' in Francoise's name. I do not remember it and don't feel like looking around the Web for an hour to find it. This is my first lame 'excuse.'

In New York's Times Square, you get what you pay for even if it's free - like the 'naked cowboy.'

Using airline audio-plugs to listen to the dialogue of shoddy inflight movies seems to have caused one of my ears to turn red and swell up - requiring treatment from Dr. Tandoori - involving heavy-duty antibiotique bombers - without the expected side-effects - anyway, to the point of pending explosion, which was reached yesterday.

So I was at New York's Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital passing four hours of being last in line, until this was seen to. It was ugly and messy. I came out of it looking like a buzzard with one wing in a bent sling. The good news here is not being street-safe to go to Macy's super major Wednesday sale in Manhattan today - discounts on discounted discounts! - they pay you to take stuff away - and, here I am 'taking care' of the club report, trying not to use any accents.

Nearly needless to say, there are no club photos from last week's meeting - because its reporter, the server-lady, is still buying rolls of film or waiting for them to be developed. For this reason, please accept the Manhattan substitutes strewn around this page.

I doubt if anybody cares, but it is cold in New York too. In degrees it is not a lot under zero - or 32 as they call it here - but there are pesky breezes that pass through layers of textiles like a knife and make bones feel like thin steel tubing. For some reason, the underground subway stations are not heated like the métro in Paris, so this is not a suitable fallback, except for getting around to places like uptown, downtown, Eastside, the Village, the lower Westside, Battery Park or midtown, with its east and west as well as north and south.

Leaving New York City aside for a minute, the next Café Metropole Club meeting is tomorrow, Thursday, in Paris, and it will be hostedphoto: xmas cards, 50 off again by the club's honorary secretary, Linda Thalman. The club's wayward but 'regular' secretary should be back in the café La Corona on Thursday, 23. January.

Everything is 'on sale' sooner or later, so stock up now for next Christmas.

The names of the saints for these two days are unavailable to me at this time, as is a spell-checker and the other usual tools required for doing these reports and putting them online. Sorry for the inconvenience - this is causing me.

Please be nice to the server-lady if you are attending the club meeting tomorrow. It won't hurt to tell her what a wonderful job she's doing hosting these club meetings and enforcing the club's suspended 'rules' while the club's regular secretary frolics around in arctic-like New York City, which is currently featuring skiing in Central Park, with some snow imported from Vermont.

The café's location is:

Café-Tabac La Corona
2. Rue de l'Amiral de Coligny - or - 30. Quai du Louvre
Paris 1. Métro: Louvre-Rivoli, Pont-Neuf or Châtelet.
Every Thursday from 15:00 to 17:00.

A bientôt à Paris
