Paris:- Saturday, 26. April 2003:- Georges Simenon lived in Paris from 1922 to 1938 and half of his 192 novels had the city as a setting, including some of his 63 novels featuring 'Maigret.' Without reading all of these, you can get up to speed with 'Maigret - Traversées de Paris,' which features 120 of the commissaire's locations. The book, published by Paris Bibilothèques, is available from the crime library, the BILIPO, mentioned below. The library also has an exhibition about Simenon and Maigret. You will need a policeman's shoes to follow Maigret's steps around the city. If you become fatigued, stop in at the café above, L'Atmosphère. The photographer, Henri Cartier-Bresson, who is 95 years old these days, has decided to become an living institution with a exhibition at the Bibliothèque Nationale, Mitterrand branch, and with the opening of an exhibition space in a villa in the 14th arrondissement. Shadowing Maigret - on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Georges Simenon, follow his famous detective's footsteps through the Paris of 1920-1950, beginning at the BILIPO, the public library specializing in crime literature. François-Marie Banier - in an exhibition advertised on posters all over the city, with a photo of Samuel Beckett on a beach. Air Show - Le Bourget - this semi-annual affair has a huge official name, and hundreds of exhibitors from many countries. If you need an air force, this is the place to get one. Daily air shows will be featured, but the public will be restricted to a few dates. These are expected to be from Sunday, 15 June, and possibly the following weekend. Lost, Beat and New - to fill a gaping void in the
world's lit-life, Shakespeare & Co. will be hosting its
first literary festival. Three sections will
feature 100 Years for the Musée Gustav Moreau - inaugurated in January of 1903, Moreau's reception room has remained closed for 100 years until its coming reopening on Tuesday, 17. June. Restored to its original condition in every detail for this occasion, resulting in an extraordinary museum within the museum with its exceptional collection. Paris Plage, Summer 2003 - is a bigger and better replay of 2002's smash hit, to feature three kilometres of right-bank beach front beside the Seine especially for pedestrians, sunbathers, bikers, strollers, rollers - from Sunday, 20. July until Sunday, 17. August. There will be palms, sand, deckchairs, entertainment and spots to dance, with some pétanque players, and 'clubs' for kids, as well as refreshment kiosks.
