Paris:- Saturday, 4. October 2003:- According to a recent interview it is not easy to mount a major public-pleasing exhibitions because most major artists have had their 'big shows' within living memory. So many have been shown in Paris that some new shows are being imported, because they show off art from an unusual angle.

With this week's column, most if not all of this season's major shows are included. It's not a short list - partly because some of the shows are not 'major,' and will only be shown once, and possibly only in Paris.



Lucien Jonas - this is an exhibition of Jonas' designs for wall murals, done in Paris in the 1920s and 1930s - many of which have disappeared. Until Tuesday, 28. October. Parures de Tête - no details yet, but not to be missed, with plenty of time to go until July of 2004. Daily from 11:00 to 19:00, except Monday and Tuesday. Botticelli - subtitled, 'De Laurent Le Magnifique à Savonarole,' will be a major exhibition brought to Paris by the Sénat. It continues until 22. February 2004. Gauguin - Tahiti - will feature paintings from Gauguin's tropical south seas atelier in this major show. Continuing until Monday, 19. January. Open from 10:00 to 20:00 and until 22:00 on Wednesdays. De Delacroix à Renoir - Algeria as seen by French painters of the past is the focus of this exhibition. Beginning Tuesday, 7. October and continuing until Sunday, 18. January. Piaf, la Môme de Paris - follows Yves Montand's popular show in the city hall's free reception area. From Friday, 10. October until Saturday, 31. January. Fête des Vendanges - is the annual one on Montmartre, on the weekend of 11 and 12. October. Parade, onposter: expo, vuillard, grand palais Sunday, starts on the Boulevard de Rochechouart at 14:00 and winds around the Butte until reaching the vineyard in the Rue Saint-Vincent about 16:30, for the ceremony of the new wine. La Semaine du Goût - Taste Week - France shows off its talents with creative things to put in your mouth, that do more than keep you merely alive. Tastings, and instructions, everywhere for the week beginning on Monday, 13. October, until Sunday, 19. October. Find more details here.

JVC Jazz Festival - this annual event takes place from Monday, 13. October until Tuesday, 21. October. Concerts are in several locations, so your best bet is to check the Web site, where reservations can also be made. InfoTel.: 01 46 21 08 37.

Chen Zhen - is the author of 'Silence Sonore,' an exhibition to be on view until Sunday, 18. January 2004. Open Tuesday to Sunday, from noon to midnight. 30th FIAC 2003 - is the annual contemporary art fair - covering yesterday and today - to be held in its usual fair hang-out, from Thursday, 9. October until Monday, 13 October. Dreamspaces - features photos by Jeff Berner, who was more worried about misplaced caps on the invitation to the vernissage than telling me about the expo - which he probably thinks I've forgotten about. Affiches Mode - this busy poster gallery returns with a collection of high quality fashion posters. This expo-sale continues until December. L'Ile de la Cité - 2000 years of history is the theme of the next exhibition at the Crypte Archéologique, organized by the Musée Carnavalet - assumed to begin on Wednesday, 8. Festival d'Ile de France - is subtitled 'Le Paradis et Ses Jardins.' This annual festival winds up on Sunday, 12. October with a sort of 'chamber' opera at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, and a one act Andalusian ballet at Le Trianon - all within the 'Djazair' program.
