Mix with the people, listen to what they say, do what they're doing. Be Parisian.

Next Thursday, as well as being the date for the coming Café Metropole Club, is also Beaujolais Nouveau Day in Paris.

The statue representing Strasbourg in the Place de la Concorde.

You will see this on TV and read about it in the features sections of your newspapers, and there will be the 'stories of the minute,' such as the penguin who knocks off the first bottle on the date-line in Antarctica.

If I don't get squashed like a bug crossing the street, if I don't become fatally ill with terminal weasels - then tune in here late Thursday Paris time, for both of these stories 'of the day.'

I Forgot

The reason that there is no proper feature, full of deep research, in this issue is because I was spending some time talking to future sources, and resources. One of them sneaked into the non-feature anyhow.

Lest you forget, you are always welcome to comment about any of the above, below; the entire contents - or what you wish they were.

Paris 'Rando' Fever II

Rebecca Bont must have read last week's item here about the 'Rando Fever' in Paris and mixed it up with Paris' other fever-of-the-moment, which involves wheels - as in 'Roller Rando.'

Ms. Bont therefore wrote to suggest a link to her Web site, which is all about roller skates. I looked it over and replied that it didn't seem to have enough of a Paris connection to it - besides wheels, of which there are too many here already.

However Ms. Bont is very polite and there is little enough of this around. For this reason here is a one-time plug for her Bontphoto: correspondance pour le caire, ratp Skate Company. Anything you want to know, any kind of skate you need, give it a hit.

We Go Anywhere

While Paris' métro is featuring interesting new destinations, there is also a Eurostar campaign that says Bombay is only three hours away. Better yet, I saw a Toyota taxi which offered direct trips to Toyko. Why better? Because it was a Paris taxi and everybody knows their fares are lower than Eurostar's.

Café Metropole Club 5th Session Rehash

The 5th weekly meeting of the 'Café Metropole Club' ran off pretty successfully, with onion soup, last Thursday. Read all about it on last week's 'Club 'Report'' page.

Only 47 more mostly cloudy, cold, spottily sunny, and occasionally extremely rainy Paris and Ile-de-France autumn days to go until the really big year-end party bursts upon us.
