Two guys at a table behind, give up trying to have a quiet time in a Paris café, and ask Marilyn how to get somewhere. She learns that one is Canadian and the other is Spanish, but does not get them to join the club before giving them the directions they want. No 'Zulu' beads for them.

As totally out of control as any meeting has ever been, I outshout Charles to get everybody out on the café's terrace for the group photo.

"It's cold," and "Should I bring my wine?" and "It's raining!" and "White plonk should be the 'Drink of the Week'" are some of the things members say as they trickle out to the terrace, letting huge volumes of damp air into the café.

After this ordeal, Chris attempts to get the 'City of the Week' changed to Baton Rouge. I have a feeling it already had this award. She says, "We don't get it and we are five members from there?!?"

I don't get a chance to tell her that the club secretary gets to cast the tie-breaking deciding vote because I hearphoto: club chaos Lynda say, "We need a roll of franc coins." After we all look around in vain for the answer to this, she adds, "Because we may need them for later!"

Club members being as confusing as the photo of them being confusing.

This is when the big 'Pay-up of the Week' begins. Although the half-full and empty wine pots are as thick as a thicket, Monsieur Ferrat has arranged for there to be only two tickets on the table for two-hours' worth of everything. Who had what and how much - and what's the price of this anyway?

The surprise for me is that it is approximately the time for today's meeting to end. Not surprising is that it is pouring rain outside. It is surprisingly strong rain for Paris too. It must be because it is 'Black Thursday II' in France today.

Downstairs in the café, where the franc-pieces are necessary, one of the café's ladies is wearing two strings of genuine Nawlins plastic 'Zulu' Mardi Gras beads. The waterworks department of the club's café is not having a 'Black Thursday.'

And neither am I. My own genuine Nawlins plastic 'Zulu' Mardi Gras bead collection has just been doubled.

'Black Thursday' Strike Update

According to tonight's TV-news, after all-day talks between the two sides, both factions have decided to continue their discord. The next date for the rail strikes in France will be on 'Black Friday,' tomorrow.

The 'About the Café Metropole Club' Page

Long-suppressed and 'unofficial' former club 'rules' concerning your Café Metropole Paris Club - as opposed a voodoo 'report' like this one - can be found on the 'About the Café Metropole Club page,' which is about your club and has a link on each issue's 'home' page, in case you miss hitting the one here.

Date, Time and Location of Next Meeting

Take a look at the 'about the club' stuff if you have time or skip it if you haven't. You should read the following about the next Café Metropole Club meeting - it will be held on Thursday, 12. April, which is a week from now, just like other Thursdays usually are.

If you are in Paris or not it will be Saint-Jules' Day. The following Friday will be just another ordinary Sainte-Ida's day which was on Thursday last year.

The café La Corona meeting place will be openphoto: zulu bead pot as it is all the time well as every Thursday. Your club's meeting time will be from 15:00 to 17:00 in Europe's Central European Time Zone - 'CET' for short and not 'ULUZ' - and elsewhere known as 3 pm to 5 pm otherwise.

The 'Zulu'-beaded white plonk 'Pot of the Week.'

The club's secretary, which is usually myself in person, will be carefully writing some 'report' notes during the coming meeting, but do not pay any attention to this because it is pretty slipshod because it is done by hand.

Think up a new 'Quote of the Week' or bring your own new 'City of the Week' - I know Baton Rouge will be back for another try - or even any other 'Thing of the Week,' if you want to share it, them, with other members - and readers.

The café's location is:

Café-Tabac La Corona
2. Rue de l'Amiral Coligny - or - 30. Quai du Louvre
Paris 1. Métro: Pont-Neuf or Châtelet.

A bientôt à Paris,
